EXCLUSIVE: The Vampire Diaries actress Penelope Mitchell has been set to star opposite Toby Kebbell (Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes) in psychological thriller Becoming, with Jason Patric (Sleepers) also joining the cast. Double Dutch International will be touting the movie in Cannes next week. Traverse Media reps North America.
Written and directed by Omar Naim (The Final Cut), the two-hander follows a couple (Mitchell and Kebbell) on a road trip through America where they encounter a terrifying dark force older than the country itself. An evil that transforms loved ones into someone terrifying, the entity has left a trail of murdered families going back hundreds of years. Patric will play a mysterious survivor of the entity’s crimes.
Kebbell, Mitchell and Patric are supported by Jeff Daniel Philips (Lords Of Salem), Beth Broderick (Echoes of War) and Stephen Rider (Netflix’s Daredevil). Kebbell, who stars in Nicole Kidman’s upcoming crime-drama Destroyer, is also producing the project, alongside Michael Philip (Night Train) and Cole Payne (Antibirth). Jason Moring (A Quiet Passion), Stanley Preschutti (Ripped) and Mark Padilla (Red Dog) of DDI will serve as executive producers on the film, which is currently in production in Kentucky.
Oz actress Mitchell, who replaced Claire Holt in the movie, has a key role in Lionsgate’s upcoming Hellboy reboot and will next be seen in thriller Between Worlds opposite Nicolas Cage and the upcoming psychological thriller Look Away with Jason Isaacs. Speed 2 and Sleepers actor Patric most recently starred in Iraq war drama The Yellow Birds.
