Modern Family star Sarah Hyland has been tapped as the lead in the romantic comedy, The Wedding Year, with Legally Blonde and The Ugly Truth director Robert Luketic at the helm. The pic hails from Lakeshore Entertainment, which Deadline first reported had picked up the spec script written by Donald Diego. Lakeshore will be presenting the film at the upcoming Cannes Film Festival.
Hyland stars as LA photographer Mara Hickey who is never getting married. So, when she and her new ready-to-settle-down boyfriend are invited to fifteen weddings in the same year, the pressure is on Mara to make some big decisions.
Lakeshore’s Gary Lucchesi, Marc Reid, and Mark Korshak will produce. Hyland, who is currently in her 9th season of ABC’s hit comedy, Modern Family, will serve as an executive producer on this project.
Luketic’s directorial credits include Monster-in-Law, with Jane Fonda and Jennifer Lopez and card counting casino thriller, 21, starring Jim Sturgess and Kate Bosworth.
Hyland is repped by RKM, WME, and Gang, Tyre, Ramer & Brown, while Mosaic, CAA and Bloom, Hergott, Diemer, Rosenthal, repped Luketic.
