American Idol

Now live across the country and airing one night a week, ABC’s American Idol (1.8, 8.0 million viewers)  won its two-hour slot and grew for the 2nd week in row in both metrics, hitting its best numbers since premiere. Idol picked up 2/10th of a rating in the demo, which is likely to climb at least another 1/10th of 2/10ths when Nielsen adds in unduplicated viewers of the live 5-7 PM West-Coast broadcast.

Idol‘s gain boosted Deception (0.8, 3.70M) by 1/10th to equal its best since its March 11 series debut (1.2) in the demo, and handily take the timeslot in that metric, while CBS’ Madam Secretary (0.6, 5.99M)  topped in total viewers, also besting NBC’s Timeless (06, 2.62M).

In new-show news, CBS’ recently added 8 PM drama Instinct (0.6, 7.04M) stayed at a 0.6, matching it low to date in the demo; ditto NBC’s recently added 9 PM program Genius Junior (0.6, 3.70M)

ABC (1.4, 6.40M) dominated in the demo for the night. CBS (0.7, 7.37M) took the night in total viewers with a lineup that also included the night’s most watch program, 7 PM’s 60 Minutes (0.8, 8.95M), as well as 9 PM NCIS: Los Angeles (o.7, 7.48M).

Fox (0.8, 1.97M) finished second in the demo with static stats for  Bob’s Burgers repeat(0.8, 1.89M),  The Simpsons (0.9, 2.42M), and Brooklyn Nine-Nine (0.9, 1.96M) which retained 100% of its Simpsons demo lead-in for a second time.

NBC (0.7, 4.13M) followed, with Dateline (o.7, 4.24M) matching its season high for a regular Sunday showing, and all four of its Sunday regulars growing week to week in total viewers, also including Little Big Shots (0.8, 6.02M).
