ITV Lines Up Ross Kemp Danger Doc Series From Warner Bros’ Renegade Pictures

Extreme World

EXCLUSIVE: British hardman Ross Kemp, who has starred in a number of documentaries in some of the most dangerous parts of the world, is pulling back on his bulletproof vest for a documentary series for ITV.

I hear Kemp, who also starred Ricky Gervais’ comedy Extras, is to front Ross Kemp: In The Line Of Fire (w/t), a two-part doc series produced by Warner Bros’ British production division Renegade Pictures.

The series will see Kemp follow armed police across the country as they deal with a surge in violent crime and the threat of terrorism. Working with police in areas such as Birmingham, which has seen a spike in violent crime, he will follow anti-terror police and will also meet firearms smugglers and gang members and ask whether more police officers in the UK should carry guns.

Ross Kemp: In The Line Of Fire, which was commissioned by ITV’s Controller of Factual Jo Clinton Davis, is his latest project for the commercial broadcaster, following last year’s Ross Kemp Behind Bars – Inside Barlinnie, a one-off doc that saw him go into Glasgow’s notoriously violent prison. The doc saw Ross discover what it was really like to be an inmate in the prison, which houses around 1250 prisoners, and how prison officers handle the violence, homemade weapons and drugs.

Kemp has become one of the hottest factual frontmen in the UK in recent years. His Freshwater Films-produced franchise Ross Kemp: Extreme World was one of the most successful non-scripted series on Sky over the last few years but he started working with rival broadcasters after the pay-TV broadcaster cancelled the series as part of Sky One’s shift from factual series to splashy entertainment formats. I hear Kemp is already in talks with other producers and networks over a range of new programme ideas.

Renegade Pictures produces a range of factual and entertainment series including Channel 5’s Ben Fogle: New Lives In The Wild, Channel 4’s Our Wildest Dreams and E4 wedding format Don’t Tell The Bride.
