‘Code Black’ Stumbles In Season 3 Starter; ‘Survivor,’ ‘Empire’ Share Wednesday Win Despite Lows

Code Black

Code Black (0.7, 5.56M) started Season 3 on an off note Wednesday; the CBS drama fell 33% compared to last season’s premiere, to tie NBC’s Chicago P.D. repeat (0.7, 3.63M) for the 10 PM demo win. In total viewers, Code Black slipped 13%.

Both shows bested ABC’s Designated Survivor (0.5, 3.37M) in the hour.

Fox’s 8 PM Empire (1.6, 5.26M) and CBS’s Survivor (1.6, 7.75M) tied for Wednesday’s No. 1 spot. Survivor was steady week to week in equaling its season low. Empire, meanwhile, was off by 11% to a new series low in the key 18-49 year old age bracket.

In same hour, NBC’s Blacklist (o.8, 5.22M) hunt on to all of prior week’s demo, while growing its total viewer tally.

After Survivor, CBS’s SEAL Team (0.8, 6.31M) dropped 2/10th compared to most recent broadcast.

From 8-10 PM, ABC scattered Alex, Inc. originals in among repeats of stronger comedies. An 8:30 Alex (0.7, 2.97M) followed an 8 PM The Goldbergs encore (0.7, 3.53M), and a 9:30 PM Alex (0.6, 2.48M) followed a 9 PM Modern Family repeat (0.7, 3.20M).

Fox (1.4, 4.55M) topped the night; CBS (1.0, 6.54M) took total viewers and finished second in the demo. NBC (0.7, 4.11M) was third in both, followed by ABC (0.6, 3.15M), and CW (0.4, 2.0M).
