Warner Bros and ScreenX maker CJ 4DPLEX intend to add up to five titles to be released in the next 12 months on the panoramic, premium-screen format. The deal — The Nun, Aquaman and Shazam! are confirmed to be among the five — comes after the companies teamed on the release of the Dwayne Johnson-starring Rampage earlier this month.
ScreenX, the multi-projection system that provides an immersive, 270-degree film-viewing experience, has seen its installed base grow from 107 to 142 during the past year. Additional screens across China, the U.S. and Europe are in the works to add to the total by year’s end.
This week at CinemaCon, CJ 4DPLEX unveiled a deal with B&B Theatres for four new locations in the U.S. — including one in Liberty, MO, that will be the world’s largest ScreenX. The format is the sister technology to 4DX, which this week inked a deal with Cineworld to bring 79 new motion and environmental theaters to Regal locations.
“As we look toward the future, we are excited to bring new films to theaters that take advantage of innovative formats like ScreenX,” said Thomas Molter, EVP International Distribution and Exhibition Strategy at Warner Bros Pictures. “As a company, we’re always looking to engage audiences by telling great stories in unique ways, and CJ 4DPLEX allows us to utilize new technologies that bring an immersive experience to film-goers.”
Said CJ 4DPLEX CEO Byung-Hwan Choi: “Warner Bros continues to be our strong partner, and we are thrilled to release five new titles from their upcoming film lineup. We look to expand the reach of this new technology that we feel will change the moviegoing experience for the better in the years to come.”
