Bradley Cooper To Receive 2018 American Cinematheque Award

Four-time Oscar nominee Bradley Cooper will receive the 32nd annual American Cinematheque Award, with the annual honor to be bestowed at the organization’s gala November 29 at the Beverly Hilton.

Amy Adams received last year’s honor. The award established in 1986 (Eddie Murphy got the first one) goes to “an extraordinary filmmaker in the entertainment industry, who is fully engaged in his or her work and is committed to making a significant contribution to the art of the motion picture.”

“The American Cinematheque is extremely pleased to honor Bradley Cooper as the 32nd recipient of the American Cinematheque award at our celebration this year,” American Cinematheque chairman Rick Nicita said. “Bradley Cooper is the modern-day equivalent of movie stars of Hollywood’s Golden Age — a leading man with the shapeshifting talents of a character actor.”

The organization said Cooper was a unanimous choice for the award.

Cooper, who attended CinemaCon on Tuesday to promote A Star Is Born, the redo he wrote and directed and stars in alongside Lady Gaga, was nominated for three acting Oscars in a row beginning in 2013 with Silver Linings Playbook, followed by American Hustle and then American Sniper which he also produced.

During that stretch he was nominated for a Tony for starring in the revival of The Elephant Man on Broadway.

A Star Is Born hits theaters October 5.
