Universal Roars At CinemaCon With Opening Sequence From ‘Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom’

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom

Warning, spoilers ahead. No, Universal didn’t show Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom in its entirety here at CinemaCon like last year’s Fate of the Furious. Overall, there’s been next to zero films shown in full this year, with the exception of Disney/Marvel and their Avengers: Infinity War yesterday. But Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard today did show off the first five minutes and a new trailer for J.A. Bayona’s Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.

The gist: A small submarine enters the underwater depths of the park at Isla Nublar. They saw off some bone from a dead dinosaur, and it floats up and hits that toothy killer whale beast’s bottom from the first movie. Then, there’s another researcher in the park who gets chased by the T-rex in the night. The man grabs onto the ladder of a helicopter which the T-rex tries to pull down. The beast does not, but that killer whale has the final chomp in the end.

Later in the trailer, we see that whale actually make it to the beach where folks are, of course, surfing.

The movie takes place four years after Jurassic World and Pratt and Howard’s characters are trying to salvage the dino remains of the park. Great sequence in the new trailer where they sedate the T-rex to a half-sleep: His head falls against Pratt, pushing him into a wall. The dino’s eye opens, and he roars his mouth, at which point Pratt, Indiana Jones-style, flips through the gaping jaws to safety. Of course, original Jurassic Park stock company player is the money here with his declaration before a court “Welcome to Jurassic World!”

Before the sequence rolled  Pratt said to exhibs at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace: “The last time I was here I introduced you to Jurassic World, and that movie went on to become the fourth biggest movie in history, so let’s do that again, please? Is that a deal?”

“After Avengers comes out,” followed Howard.

“It could be a great summer for all us,” beamed Pratt.
