YouTube Orders ‘High & Tight’ Comedy Pilot Starring Sung Kang & Danny Pudi

EXCLUSIVE: YouTube Red has ordered a pilot for High & Tight, a baseball buddy comedy starring Sung Kang (Power, Fast Five) and Danny Pudi (Community, Powerless). Co-starring in the pilot, created and written by Chris Marrs (Arrested Development, Those Who Can’t), are Virginia Williams (Fuller House) as well as Bruce McGill (Family Guy) and Mircea Monroe (Episodes).

High & Tight is set in the high-stakes and high-status world of Major League Baseball and is about a young translator (Pudi) forced far beyond his comfort zone when he’s hired as the full-time interpreter-slash-babysitter for L.A.’s newly signed and ill-behaved star Korean outfielder, Ho Rang’s (Kang). His irreverent partying lifestyle throws Joe Barnes’ (Pudi) staid academic life into complete upheaval.

Williams plays the first female general manager in baseball history. McGill plays the team’s owner, while Monroe plays his wife. Guest stars include pop star Christina Milian, Stephnie Weir (Crazy Ex-Girlfriend), Megan Park (Undateable), Marc Evan Jackson (Brooklyn Nine-Nine) and Bobby Lee (Splitting Up Together).

Marrs executive produces along with Kang, Alex Tse (Superfly), Tracey Baird and Krysia Plonka through Thank You, Brain! Productions (Ryan Hansen Solves Crimes on Television), Greg Walter and Josh Lieberman via 3 Arts Entertainment as well as Todd Biermann. Pudi serves as a producer. Todd Biermann is set to direct.

The setup of High & Tight draws some similarities to ABC’s 2015 NBA buddy comedy pilot about a rookie basketball player who doesn’t speak English and a  teaching assistant hired as his translator.

YouTube Red earlier this week picked up to series its action comedy pilot Wayne, toplined by Mark McKenna and Ciara Bravo. Next for the streaming platform is the May 2 debut of high-profile new action series Cobra Kai, a sequel to the Karate Kid movie franchise.

Kang is repped by CAA, Management 360 and attorneys Hannah Mulderink and Rick Genow. Pudi is repped by UTA, Velocity and attorney Bruce Gellman. Tse is represented by CAA, Lighthouse Management and attorney Joe Dapello. Williams is repped by Emery Entertainment and Paul Kohner Agency. Marrs is repped by WME, 3 Arts Entertainment and attorney Bruce Gellman.
