Sony Dates ‘Jumanji’ Sequel For December 2019 – CinemaCon

Jumanji Welcome To The Jungle

During the tail end of Sony’s film slate presentation at CinemaCon, chairman Tom Rothman revealed that the next Jumanji will arrive December 2019, and implored the exhibition crowd. “Don’t give all your screens to Star Wars,” he said.

A reboot of the 1995 Robin Williams hit, Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle surpassed the Sam Raimi-directed Spider-Man’s $403.7M to become Sony’s highest ever domestic grossing hit. The final domestic tally was $404.1M, and the film grossed $957M worldwide.

As Deadline revealed when screenwriters Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner were brought on to write the sequel, Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, and Karen Gillan are reprising. Jake Kasdan is also expected to be back.

Sony enters a crowded holiday corridor. Aside from the JJ Abrams-directed Star Wars: Episode IX, there is an untitled Blumhouse genre film, Masters of the Universe, and the Melissa McCarthy comedy Superintelligence.
