Mike Myers Remembers Verne Troyer: “He Will Be Greatly Missed”

In the wake of the death of Verne Troyer, Mike Myers, who starred with the actor in the Austin Powers films, came forward to remember the actor in a statement given to Deadline.

“Verne was the consummate professional and a beacon of positivity for those of us who had the honor of working with him,” said Myers. “It is a sad day, but I hope he is in a better place. He will be greatly missed.”

Troyer starred in Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me (1999) and Austin Powers in Goldmember (2002). A riff on the James Bond movies, Troyer played Mini-Me, a cloned version of Myers’ villainous Dr. Evil who was one-eighth his size, but twice as evil.

He also starred alongside Myers in the comedy The Love Guru as Coach Punch Cherkov. The movie followed Pitka, an American raised outside of his country by gurus, as he returned to America to break into the self-help business. One of his first attempts to help people was by helping a star hockey player whose wife left him for a rival athlete.

The news of Troyer’s death was announced today on his Facebook page. He reportedly had been hospitalized on life support after being remanded by police earlier this month upon friends reporting that he was inebriated and suicidal.
