Warner Bros Dates Melissa McCarthy Comedy ‘Superintelligence’ & Michael B. Jordan’s ‘Just Mercy’

Warner Bros has slated a December 25, 2019, release date for its Melissa McCarthy-starring action comedy Superintelligence, which Ben Falcone is directing. Written by The Boss scribe Steve Mallory, the pic follows Carol Peters (McCarthy), a former corporate executive whose unfulfilled life is turned upside down when she is selected for observation by the world’s first super-intelligence.

The studio also said today that the Michael B. Jordan legal drama Just Mercy, which WB acquired from Broad Green Pictures, will be released MLK weekend, January 17, 2020. Directed by Destin Cretton, the film is an adaptation of Equal Justice Initiative founder Bryan Stevenson’s 2014 memoir on his first case, Walter McMillian, a young black man sentenced to death for a crime he didn’t commit. Despite his airtight alibi, McMillian was convicted and spent six years on death row before being exonerated. The date had been set aside for an Untitled WB Film. Gil Netter is a producer on this film.

In addition, the studio set a date for an untitled Conjuring Universe film, which will be bow July 3, 2019. No other details on that, but the New Line franchise’s spinoff The Nun will bow September 13 this year.

Superintelligence will open on Christmas Day 2019 against Fox toon The Call of the Wild and an untitled movie from Sony Animation. Just Mercy will battle an Untitled Universal Event Film on its January 2020 date, and the Conjuring Universe pic will open two days ahead of Sony’s Spider-Man: Homecoming 2 for the Fourth of July weekend next year.
