The Goldbergs star Wendi McLendon-Covey is in negotiations to join Taraji P. Henson in What Men Want, Paramount Players’ gender-swapping revamp of the 2000 comedy starring Mel Gibson and Helen Hunt. The studio is fast-tracking this one, with principal photography underway in Atlanta and a January 11, 2019 release date already set.
Adam Shankman is directing the pic written by Alex Gregory and Peter Huyck with previous revisions by Tina Chism. The new version follows a female sports agent (Henson) who has been constantly boxed out by her male colleagues. When she gains the power to hear men’s thoughts, she is able to shift the paradigm to her advantage as she races to sign the NBA’s next superstar.
Aldis Hodge and Tracy Morgan have also been cast. McLendon-Covey will play Henson’s friend Olivia.
James Lopez and Will Packer are producing for Will Packer Productions.
McLendon-Covey is repped by UTA, manager Gladys Gonzalez and attorney David Krintzman.
