Jimmy Kimmel’s all-things-Scandal-finale late show broadcast topped the demo derby Thursday night.

In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, Jimmy Kimmel Live clocked a 0.6 demo rating – matching its highest demo rating since early March.  Same timeslot on Thursday, NBC’s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Kimmel logged a 0.5 rating, as did CBS’s The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

In Nielsen’s 56 metered markets, Kimmel averaged a 2.2 household rating, to Colbert’s winning 2.5 rating and Fallon’s 1.7. For Kimmel, that marked a 22% jump compared to previous Thursday, and his top-rated telecast in a month.

Kimmel turned over his entire show to the series finale of Shonda Rhimes Washington-set primetime soap, which he said marked  “the first time a TV show ended because the world jumped the shark, instead of the other way around.”

“Trump getting elected while you’re writing a fictional show about the White House really isn’t fair,” Kimmel said. “It’s like what would happen to Game of Thrones if they suddenly discovered that there are dragons flying around.”

Creator Rhimes recounted talking on the phone to Stevie Wonder about the original song he created for the finale, and star Kerry Washington noted that, at the time she auditioned for the role of Washington fixer Olivia Pope, good roles for black women in Hollywood were very scarce.
