Cannes Adds Special Screening, Cornerstone Boards ‘Judy And Punch’, Salon Spy Doc, ‘Goes To…’ Lineup — Cannes Briefs

Indie Sales

Cannes has added a Special Screening to its Official Selection in the shape of feature Another Day Of Life. The movie was revealed by the festival after the eye-catching additions earlier today. The European co-pro chronicles the experiences during the 1975 Angolan civil war that drove acclaimed Polish war correspondent and novelist Ryszard Kapuściński to write the book that forged his literary reputation. The animation-live action hybrid is directed by Spain’s Raúl de la Fuente and Poland’s Damian Nenow. Indie Sales handles international sales.

Cornerstone has boarded world sales on Mirrah Foulkes’ feature film directorial debut Judy and Punch. The hard-hitting live-action reinterpretation of the puppet play Punch and Judy is now underway in Australia with backing from Vice Studios. Damon Herriman (Justified) is joining Mia Wasikowska (Alice in Wonderland) in the cast. Producers are Michele Bennett (Mr Inbetween), Nash Edgerton (Mr Inbetween) and Vice’s Danny Gabai (Lords of Chaos). Madman Entertainment will be distributing in Australia and New Zealand with Cornerstone Films attached for worldwide sales.

With the first leg of photography completed in London in March 2018 and the second leg due to commence in Tel Aviv this month, Christopher Reynolds’ nascent UK investment vehicle CR67, is providing full finance for Salon Pictures in-production feature documentary The Spy Who Fell To Earth, which is being sold by Kew Media Group. The story of notorious Middle East spy Ashraf Marwan is directed by Tom Meadmore (The Outsider) and is produced by Salon’s Nick Taussig and Paul Van Carter (Churchill).

Cannes strand Goes to Cannes, the showcase of projects in post-production which have featured at festivals or are associated with funding organizations, will be back on the Croisette for the sixth year. Nine festivals will travel to Cannes to present their selection within the series including Annecy International Animation Film Festival, Hong Kong-Asia Film Financing Forum (HAF), including Fruit Chan-produced movie Still Human, and Guadalajara fest including Paula Vaccaro produced At Your Mercy. For the first time Doc Alliance will take part in the doc fest lineup. Animations via Annecy will include Koati and Pachamama.
