Nantucket Film Festival Sets Noah Baumbach Tribute, Ben Stiller Improv Night

The Nantucket Film Festival, whose 23rd edition is set for June 20-25, has announced its 2018 honorees.

The Screenwriters Tribute will go to Noah Baumbach, the Special Achievement in Documentary Storytelling Award will go to Morgan Neville, and the New Voices in Screenwriting Award to recent Sundance alum Andrew Heckler.

Given the festival’s longtime emphasis on screenwriting, the Screenwriters Tribute is always a centerpiece. Baumbach’s night will be Saturday, June 23, and will likely draw a host of notables to the Massachusetts island. Another regular feature of the festival, the All-Star Comedy Roundtable, will focus this year on improv. Thomas Middleditch (Silicon Valley) and Ben Schwartz (Parks and Recreation), will debut an improv show they performing in a national tour. The night will be presented by Ben Stiller, who will also participate in the show.

Baumbach just wrapped production on a new film he wrote and directed starring Scarlett Johansson, Adam Driver, and Laura Dern. He follows past recipients of the award such as Tom McCarthy, Oliver Stone, David O. Russell, Aaron Sorkin, Nancy Meyers and Steve Martin, among others.

Neville’s films as a director include 20 Feet from Stardom, which won the Oscar for Best Documentary Feature, and the Emmy-winning Best of Enemies. His Fred Rogers documentary, Won’t You Be My Neighbor?, had its world premiere at Sundance and will be released by Focus in June. Also at Sundance, Heckler was there with his writing and directing debut, Burden, which won the Audience Award in the U.S. Dramatic Competition.

“The Nantucket Film Festival has always recognized exemplary screenwriting and storytelling, and this year we are delighted to honor such incredibly talented filmmakers and welcome them into our festival family,” said Mystelle Brabbée, Executive Director of the Nantucket Film Festival.

The festival also announced that NPR game show Ask Me Another will host a live taping at the festival.
