Darren Aronofsky Promises ‘One Strange Rock’ Will Blow Your Mind – The Contenders Emmys

Darren Aronofsky signed on to the docu-series One Strange Rock to give viewers a glimpse of planet Earth like they’ve never seen before.

The 10-part National Geographic series, which is produced by Aronofsky and hosted by Will Smith, explores the fragility of Earth and how everyone on the planet has something in common, with the help of astronauts who have traveled to outer space.

“I’ve always loved these kinds of portraits of our world,” Aronofsky said Sunday at Deadline’s The Contenders Emmys event. “When Nat Geo called, I was really excited.”

The series features eight astronauts as co-hosts, including Jeff Hoffman, a former NASA astronaut who traveled to outer space five times, and Nicole Stott, a retired astronaut who painted the first watercolor from space.

“You really get a sense on a deep emotional level when you go up there,” said Hoffman about his space travels as he joined Aronofsky on the Contenders stage along with executive producer Jane Root, whose Nutopia produced the series and brought Aronofsky aboard.

“You get to space and you see our home from that vantage point,” added Stott.

One Strange Rock premiered in March and runs through May 28.

Aronofsky says viewers will learn something new on each episode.

“Each week, I guarantee there will be something that you’ve never heard before, that will blow a little part of your brain,” he promised.
