Pop TV has picked up a pilot for Arranged, a half-hour comedy from Crazy Ex-Girlfriend showrunner Aline Brosh McKenna and writer-producer Sono Patel and CBS Television Studios. Co-created and written by Brosh McKenna and Patel, Arranged is about two best friends who end up in a marriage of convenience.

Brosh McKenna and Patel executive produce and Brosh McKenna will direct the pilot. CBS Television Studios, where Brosh McKenna is under an overall deal, is the studio. This marks the second greenlight at Pop, a CBS Corp/Lionsgate joint venture, for CBS TV Studios. The studio also co-produced the Pop comedy series Return of the Mac co-created by and starring Joey McIntyre.

Brosh McKenna is the co-creator and showrunner of praised musical comedy series Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, which was recently picked up for a fourth — and likely final — season by the CW. She made her directorial debut helming episodes of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, co-created by and starring Rachel Bloom, and has directed the past three season finales. This is her first time directing a pilot.

Brosh McKenna recently closed a film deal at Paramount Players with Rachel Specter and Audrey Wauchope for a female-driven comedy set in the world of law enforcement. Patel, Gube, Specter and Wauchope are all writers on Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, and have been with the show for all three seasons. Brosh McKenna also started the recent #FemaleFilmmakerFriday campaign, a hashtag which continues to trend weekly, to raise the visibility of female directors in the entertainment industry.

Patel started her career as a staff writer on NBC’s A to Z. She also served as a co-producer on Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and created the web series Ginger Snaps for ABCd. She is currently writing a movie with Stephen Schwartz for DreamWorks Animation.

Brosh McKenna is repped by CAA and attorney Ken Richman. Patel is repped by Verve and Circle of Confusion.
