Donald Trump Tweets Andrew McCabe “LIED! LIED! LIED!” As TV News Struggles To Keep Up With Wild Friday

“He LIED! LIED! LIED!” an increasingly all-capping, exclamation-pointing President Donald Trump tweeted manically of former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe Friday afternoon. Trump was reacting to the Department of Justice’s release of its report from the inspector general, saying McCabe “lacked candor” and misled investigators.

TV news talking heads struggled Friday to keep up with a wild news cycle that also included former FBI Director James Comey’s first interview about his new tell-all book “A Higher Loyalty,” in which he compared President Trump to a mob boss, and news that Trump’s personal attorney Michael Cohen is under criminal investigation.

The Justice Department last month fired McCabe two days before he would have been eligible for a lifetime pension, after deciding he lied to investigators reviewing the bureau’s probe of Hillary Clinton’s email server.

DOJ says it was taking its lead from the FBI’s Office of Professional Responsibility recommending McCabe be sacked. DOJ claimed that watchdog report said McCabe misled investigators about his decision to authorize FBI officials to speak to the media about an investigation into the Clinton Foundation.

McCabe, however, insisted he was fired because of what he witnessed in the aftermath of the firing of FBI Director James Comey.
