‘The Fourth Estate’ Trailer: “I Don’t Know What Kind Of Tipping Point We’re At” NYT Reporter Says Of Donald Trump

Showtime debuted the trailer for its documentary series, The Fourth Estate, examining The New York Times as it navigated the minefield of covering President Donald Trump over the course of his first year in office.

Directed and produced by filmmaker Liz Garbus (What Happened, Miss Simone?), the four-episode docu-series examines the challenge and danger of covering a president who works his base into a froth declaring the newspaper,  and other major news outlets, “the enemy of the people.”

“The news doesn’t tell the truth,” Trump is heard telling his base at a rally in the trailer. “They have no source and I want you all to know we are fighting the Fake News.”

Embedded for the past year with NYT, and granted access and interviews with editors and reporters, the docuseries presents a portrait of the journalists keeping the public informed about their new president and his administration’s first history-making year.

The first 90-minute episode of the series will debut on-air on May 27 at 7:30 PM ET/PT on Showtime, following its world premiere as the closing night film at the Tribeca Film Festival. Subsequent episodes will air on SHOWTIME on Sunday nights at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
