Veteran showrunner Jason Katims has brought in Jeni Mulein as new head of development at his Universal Television-based True Jack Productions. Mulein succeeds Michelle Lee, who left in December to join Apple.
“I’m so excited to work with and collaborate with Jeni, who has amazing creative instincts and a wonderful facility for all aspects of making television, from development through production,” said Katims.
Mulein most recently oversaw scripted programming for Fullscreen’s SVOD platform, where she has worked with creators ranging from Bret Easton Ellis to up-and-comers like Brandon Rogers. Prior to that, Mulein was VP Limited and Event Series Programming at Fox Broadcasting Company, where she oversaw development and production on such series as Wayward Pines, 24: Live Another Day and Gracepoint, as well as developed The People v. O.J. Simpson, and Grease: Live!
Mulein began her career in features, working for Neal Moritz’s Original Film. While there, she oversaw numerous development projects and co-produced SWAT: Firefight.
Katims’ latest series via True Jack is Rise, which recently premiered on NBC. Prior to that, he developed and served as executive producer and showrunner on NBC’s acclaimed drama series Parenthood and Friday Night Lights, which later moved to DirecTV and which earned him a writing Emmy Award. Katims also developed and executive produced the NBC comedy series About a Boy.
