Ken Scherer, the CEO of the Motion Picture Television Fund Foundation who has been with the organization for 22 years, is exiting his post. The MPTF said today Scherer will transition later this month from his full-time role to an executive consulting position for the group’s upcoming 100th Anniversary program.

Bob Beitcher, the MPTF’s president and CEO, will take over leadership of fundraising duties on an interim basis. There is currently no search underway to fill Scherer’s position.

Scherer worked with MPTF Foundation chairman Jeffrey Katzenberg during his run as the organization raised more than $500 million to support MPTF health and social service programs for members of the entertainment community. Fundraising initiatives under his watch include the pre-Oscar The Night Before, pre-Emmy The Evening Before, Reel Stories Real Lives and We All Play Our Part charity events. He also recently reconstituted MPTF’s Governing Board and oversaw creation of MPTF’s NextGen program.

“It’s been a remarkable honor to work side-by-side with Jeffrey, Bob Beitcher, and the MPTF board, as well as many dedicated volunteer leaders who are so devoted to the legacy of Hollywood ‘caring for its own,’ ” Scherer said in a press release announcing the move. “I am proud of the events we created and the various successful fundraising campaigns that have contributed to supporting MPTF’s mission.”

Said Katzenberg: “We have been incredibly fortunate to have Ken lead MPTF’s fundraising efforts to meet the increasingly growing needs of members of our industry. “I am delighted to have Ken assume a new role in MPTF’s celebration of 100 years of service to the Hollywood community in 2021.”
