‘Top Boy’ Star Ashley Walters Stopped At Airport En Route To Mip TV After Having Bullet Keyring

Top Boy star Ashley Walters is coming to Cannes to promote his latest drama Bulletproof, but faced some trouble on his way after being stopped for having a key chain with a bullet.

The actor and musician, who was part of British group So Solid Crew, is heading to Mip TV to promote the drama, which is produced by Vertigo Films, including an interview with Deadline. But the controversial star had a slightly longer journey than first expected.

He was held up at Heathrow Airport en route after security found a promotional keychain that he had after wrapping production of the six-part Lethal Weapon-esque drama.

“I was two hours early and now I may miss my flight,” he tweeted. “It was a harmless bullet key ring given to me by my colleagues when we wrapped on our new show.”

Walters is starring in the series alongside Kidulthood creator Noel Clarke, which was written by The Football Factory creator Nick Love. The buddy cop drama, which was named by Deadline as one of the ten international dramas to look out for in 2018, is produced for UK pay-TV broadcaster Sky 1. The six-part Lethal Weapon-style series stars Clarke and Walters as Bishop and Pike, friends who are police officers but who grew up in very different worlds.

Vertigo Films co-creator Allan Niblo told Deadline earlier this year that Bulletproof represented its first one of its first major moves into series television. “The landscape has completely changed. When we first looked at TV six years ago, there weren’t too many opportunities, but now with the likes of Netflix, Amazon and Hulu, they’re starting to want the type of shows that we want to make.”

The series is distributed by Sky Vision.
