Great Point Boards Sales On Maxine Peake Movie From ‘Deep State’ Producer Endor

EXCLUSIVE: Great Point Media has boarded international sales on the latest feature from Deep State and State Of Play (TV) producer Endor Productions, I can reveal. Bafta-nominated actress Maxine Peake (Funny Cow, The Falling) stars in the BFI-backed Gothic mystery alongside Britannia actress Eleanor Worthington-Cox, the youngest recipient of the best actress Laurence Olivier award for her role of the theatre production of Matilda, and newcomer Jodie Innes.

Buzzed-about UK director-writer William McGregor’s under-the-radar first feature, which currently has a working title of The Dark Outside, follows a young girl who desperately tries to hold her family together in the face of a hostile local community, a rapacious slate mine nearing their land and a growing darkness that has begun to haunt her home life.

Shot on location in Snowdonia, Wales, supporting cast on the movie includes Richard Harrington (Hinterland), Kobna Holdbrook-Smith (The Commuter) and Mark Lewis Jones (Star Wars: The Last Jedi). Nada Cirjanic, Head of Sales for Great Point will be introducing the film to buyers at next month’s Marché Du Film in Cannes.

The project, currently in post-production, was developed by the BFI and Red Arrow Studios outfit Endor with the latter’s Hilary Bevan Jones and Tom Nash as lead producers. The BFI’s Lizzie Francke, Paul Grindey and Charles Moore of Viewfinder Films, Fergus Haycock of Great Point Media and Adam Partridge of Ffilm Cymru Wales are Executive Producers. The production is co-financed by the BFI, awarding funds from the National Lottery, and Ffilm Cymru Wales.

Bevan Jones and Nash told us, “We are thrilled to be working with the exceptionally talented William McGregor on his debut feature film. William has expertly captured the raw beauty of Snowdonia and harnessed the power of the landscape in telling a haunting and deeply moving family story, beautifully brought to life by a cast headed by Maxine Peake and Eleanor Worthington-Cox. We are pleased to have appointed Great Point Media for international sales, their extensive experience will ensure we
attract the very best distribution partners.”

Cirjanic added, “We were enthralled by this emotional and intense story and there is no doubt that William McGregor will deliver an absolutely gripping film.”

Endor is riding high after the renewal of their upcoming Fox spy drama Deep State. Peake, BAFTA-nominated for her performances in BBC TV dramas The Village and Hancock & Joan, also has a leading role in Mike Leigh’s upcoming feature Peterloo. Great Point, hatched in 2013 by Hallmark Channel founder Robert Halmi and Jim Reeve, launched a U.S. distribution arm in January this year. Movies on the sales slate include Alicia Vikander drama EuphoriaZappa, Alex Winter’s documentary about musician Frank Zappa, and Robert Pattinson and Mia Wasikowska feature Damsel, which premiered at Berlin.

Peake is repped by Troika, Worthington-Cox by Curtis Brown and McGregor by Independent.
