Tencent To Stream Major League Baseball Games In China

Internet giant Tencent has reached an agreement with Major League Baseball to live stream games and highlight programs in China.

Under terms of the multi-year agreement, Tencent will live-stream 125 games on exclusive basis to computers, mobile devices and via over the top platforms.

Tencent plans to commemorate the partnership with what it’s calling Super Baseball Week, with five days of games featuring some of baseball’s top stars, including Mike Trout, Francisco Lindor, Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton and Cody Bellinger.

MLB Tencent partnership

“In recent years, baseball has developed rapidly in China, which wouldn’t happen without MLB’s dedicated promotion in China for over a decade,” Tencent Vice President Caitlyn Chen said in a statement. “In the future, with the advantage of Tencent’s production and broadcasting … we will bring the attention to MLB and baseball in China to a new level.”

Tencent said it would work closely with the league to help promote the sport in China by supporting an array of youth baseball and development events and partnering with a baseball road show, MLB Baseball Park, that travels to major metropolitan areas.

“As MLB continues to expand the participation, viewing and engagement of baseball in China, it is critical to partner with the best organizations in the country to form mutually beneficial co-operations,” said Jim Small, MLB vice president of the Asia Pacific.
