Since debuting in 2005, Supernatural has become the longest-running sci-fi series in the history of U.S. television. That said, the show’s stars Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki are more than just co-stars; they share a close bond like their on-screen characters of Dean and Sam Winchester. Thirteen years is a long time in Hollywood time, and in a recent interview on The Talk (watch the video above), the two recalled the first time they met each other at the audition for Supernatural — where no one else showed up.
The walk down memory lane started when The Talk guest co-host Carnie Wilson asked Padalecki the first time he met Jensen, which was at the audition.
“These network auditions are terrifying,” admitted Padalecki. “So we met, and we were kind of were sitting in the room like, ‘Where is everybody?’ And so we’re kind of waiting for other people to show up.” While they were waiting, they realized they had a lot in common. From being Texas natives to sharing an affinity for the Dallas Cowboys, they connected.
To their surprise, while they were waiting and bonding, no other actors came in to audition. Ackles said, “They brought us in, they had us read together in front of the executives, and then they asked us to step outside — and then they said, ‘We’re just gonna switch some things up, we want you to do something different…just kidding, you guys have the parts.” Thus, the Winchester brothers were created.
After 13 seasons, Supernatural continues to satisfy their loyal cult following. And much to their fans’ delight, the sci-fi series was recently renewed for a 14th season. It was one of 10 shows renewed in this morning’s CW mass-renewal spree.
