The original film was directed by Gordon Parks Jr. and starred Ron O’Neal as Priest, an African American cocaine dealer who tries to secure one more deal before getting out of the business. The pic spun two sequels: Super Fly T.N.T. (1973) and The Return of Superfly (1990).

Although the film garnered a mixed reception for its portrayal of African Americans, the soundtrack, composed by Curtis Mayfield, was a critical and commercial success.

Director X is known for helming music videos for artist such as Usher, Kanye West, Jay-Z, David Guetta, Drake, Justin Bieber, Nicki Minaj and Rihanna. On the film side, he directed the Canadian drama Across the Line starring Stephan James, and Center Stage: On Pointe, the sequel to 2000’s ballet drama Center Stage.

X is repped by Gersh.
