Russell Simmons Again Denies Rape Allegations With “#NOTME”

Music mogul and accused rapist Russell Simmons said today he “will prove without any doubt” that he is innocent of the allegations, posting an Instagram message that begins, “Today, I begin to properly defend myself” and includes “#NOTME”.

Simmons’ Instagram post comes a day after reports in The New York Times and the Los Angeles Times detailed allegations from four women claiming that Simmons raped them between 1988 and 2014. Performer Sherri Hines told the Los Angeles Times that Simmons raped her around 1983.

The mogul’s latest Instagram post (see it below) reads:

“Today, I begin to properly defend myself. I will prove without any doubt that I am innocent of all rape charges. Today, I will focus on “The Original Sin” (Keri Claussen), the claim that created this insane pile on of my #MeToo. Stay tuned! We’ll share evidence today… And tomorrow the case of Jenny Lumet. My intention is not to diminish the #MeToo movement in anyway, but instead hold my accusers accountable. #NotMe Again, this is not a movement against or even in conjunction with #Metoo . It’s just a statement about my innocence.

Simmons posted this statement yesterday:

In addition to the rape allegations reported in the newspapers, four additional women have alleged inappropriate sexual behavior against Simmons, including actress Natashia Williams-Blach, massage therapist Erin Beattie, and two former employees at yoga studio Tantris.

Allegations made by former model Keri Claussen Khalighi, referred to by Simmons today as “The Original Sin,” also involved Simmons’ longtime friend Brett Ratner. Lumet came forward with her story after Simmons denied Khalighi’s accusation.

Simmons announced last month he was stepping away from his companies amid the accusations.
