‘Wonder Woman’s Patty Jenkins On Why The Female Empowerment Story Is Universal – The Contenders Video

Patty Jenkins

Patty Jenkins came to Deadline’s 7th annual The Contenders event last month to be part of the Warner Bros presentation — specifically highlighting her mega-smash Wonder Woman, which not only is one of the most critically acclaimed films of the year, but also made a social impact well beyond the norm for a film in the superhero genre. In fact, it even landed Jenkins as a finalist for Time Magazine’s Person of the Year.

Whether that’s better than an Oscar nomination is a big question, but Jenkins is right in the thick of that race this year too. In our conversation last month at the DGA Theater in front of a packed house of Academy and key guild voters, she discusses why she was attracted to taking on the movie, her first theatrical feature since 2003’s Monster. As she tells me, Wonder Woman has something in common with that film in that it is a great story about the human dilemma. We also talk about the universality of Wonder Woman and why it makes such an impact.

Check out our conversation above.
