Aviron Buys Keanu Reeves-Winona Ryder-Starrer ‘Destination Wedding’ In $3+Million NA Deal

EXCLUSIVE: Upstart distributor Aviron Pictures has landed North American rights to the Keanu Reeves-Winona Ryder romantic comedy Destination Wedding for around $3 million, sources said. The deal came off a five minute sizzle reel that was shown to buyers by Bloom, which is selling offshore rights. Directed by Victor Levin from the script he wrote, the comedy focuses on two unpleasant guests who are grudgingly invited to a wedding and are both repulsed by but drawn to each other.

The film marks the fourth collaboration for the John Wick and Stranger Things stars who most famously paired in the Francis Coppola-directed Bram Stoker’s Dracula, and later in A Scanner Darkly and The Private Lives of Pippa Lee. Levin directed 5 to 7 and has written for series including Mad Men and Survivors Remorse.

Pic is produced by Gail Lyon for Sunshine Pictures, Elizabeth Dell for Two Camel Films, and Jones for The Fyzz Facility, which financed the film. Jean Wyman, Cassian Elwes of Elevated, and Wayne Marc Godfrey, Mark Lane and James Harris of The Fyzz Facility serve as Executive Producers.

The deal was brokered by Cassian Elwes and Lawrence Kopeikin of Morris Yorn, and Endeavor Content for Aviron, which launched last Cannes, headed by indie vet David Dinerstein and backed by Aviron Capital, a consortium of financiers including principal William Sadleir, who is chairman/CEO. The company got started releasing the Halle Berry thriller Kidnap late this summer, and has coming the Alec Baldwin-Salma Hayek comedy Drunk Parents, and the Johannes Roberts-directed horror film The Strangers: Prey At Night out March 9, 2018.

In Destination Wedding, Reeves plays Frank and Ryder plays Lindsay, the miserable wedding-goers who develop a mutual affection despite themselves.
