‘El Camino Christmas’ Trailer: Ted Melfi’s Dark Comedy Gets Netflix Premiere Date

El Camino Christmas is a dark comedy directed by Dave Talbert and starring an ensemble cast led by Luke Grimes, Tim Allen, Dax Shepard, Vincent D’Onofrio, Kurtwood Smith, Michelle Mylett, Kimberly Quinn and Jessica Alba. It is also the next film from Hidden Figures filmmaker Ted Melfi. The Netflix pic will start streaming December 8.

The project, which was 10 years in the making, was produced by Melfi and scripted by him and Chris Wehner. The story follows a young man (Grimes) who seeks out a father he has never met and, through no fault of his own, ends up barricaded in a liquor store with five other people on Christmas Eve. The story takes place in the fictitious town of El Camino, NV.

El Camino Christmas also was produced by Kim Quinn. Lyn Sisson-Talbert, Rich Carter, Jack Murray and Uri Singer serve as executive producers.

Melfi is the Oscar-nominated writer of Hidden Figures, which was also nominated for Best Picture this year. The film he directed about NASA’s  African-American female unsung heroes struck just the right chord, grossing a big $169.3M stateside and $235.2M worldwide.
