‘The Woman Who Wasn’t There’ Filmmaker Directs ‘Monolith’ – WATCH

EXCLUSIVE: Angelo J. Guglielmo, Jr., who directed The Woman Who Wasn’t There about the woman who perpetrated the fraud as a 9/11 victim, rising up to the president of the survivors’ organization, has just directed another documentary. This one is another live-action with animation doc called Monolith and it’s getting a major marketing push today from Vimeo. It is executive produced by Andrea Smith, who used to work at William Morris and then Paradigm before going into film. She also was a producer on Al Gore’s 24 Hours of Climate Reality.

Monolith is about an artist who is suffering through depression. It has been selected as a Staff Pick, recognition granted only to a small fraction of the works on the Vimeo platform. “Vimeo has a long history of featuring artist’s profiles and Angelo’s portrait of Gwyneth Leech impressed us with its unique take on artistic transformation,” said Ina Pira. Seeing Gwyneth redefine herself and work through the changes in her environment was an inspiring story and one we think Vimeo creators will connect with.” She said that The film will be added to the Staff Picks channel  which is featured prominently on the site and across connected devices. “We’ll also be promoting the film on our social media platforms,” said Pira.

The subject of the piece, artist Gwyneth Leech, is someone that Guglielmo was neighbors with. “She was coming in my kitchen the springtime before her sister died, and she was telling me about this hotel going up outside her studio window and also telling me about her sister,” said Guglielmo. “In the next coffee visit, she was obsessed with the construction project that then birthed a new artform. And I really started to realize that we make a choice how we handle our disappointments and our tragedies. She was able to rise above her sister’s suicide because her talent was pushing her outside the studio. While she is this really interesting artist, I wanted to break tradition and make the artwork a secondary character and focus on the human experience first.”
