Construction Worker Killed In Pinewood Atlanta Studios Fall ID’d

UPDATED with victim’s name: A construction worker who fell to his death Tuesday at Pinewood Atlanta Studios in Fayetteville, GA has been identified. The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday that the man was Javier Padraza-Perez, 44, of Roswell, GA.

Capt. Mike Singleton of the Fayette County Fire Department said yesterday that Padraza-Perez was killed in a “fall from height.” He had been helping to build a new warehouse at the Pinewood facility, fell out of a lift and wasn’t wearing a harness. The incident occurred around 11 AM local time Tuesday, according to Atlanta station WSB-TV 2, which first reported the story.

Mike Akins, business agent of IATSE Local 479 in Atlanta, said Padraza-Perez was not one of his members. “He was working for a subcontractor building the studio. It had nothing to do with film production. It’s a sad day.”

The studio features 18 sound stages on 700 acres just south of Atlanta and has been home to several of Disney’s Marvel movies including right now Avengers: Infinity War and Black Panther. Last month, Infinity War directors Joe and Anthony Russo shot a Facebook Live video from the set on the first day of production that featured Robert Downey Jr, Chris Pratt and Tom Holland.

Sony’s Passengers starring Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence also recently shot there.

Construction company Randolph Williamson was working with OSHA and sent a statement to Deadline on Tuesday afternoon:

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of a subcontractor who was fatally injured in an accident today on a construction site at Pinewood Atlanta Studios. As the project’s general contractor, we promptly informed the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and are cooperating with the ongoing investigation. We hope to learn more in the coming days about what caused this tragedy, as safety is our top concern at this and all of our project sites.
