‘Patriots Day’: New Trailer Shows Strength Of Human Spirit In Boston Bombing Attack

“Good vs. Evil. Love vs. Hate. The only weapon you have to fight back with” is the theme featured in a new trailer for Patriots Day from CBS Films and Lionsgate just released. It comes only about a week before the picture heads into the nation’s theaters (it opens in limited venues Wednesday). In addition to film footage, this one features true heroes speaking about that day that terrorists set off bombs during the Boston Marathon. Mark Wahlberg, Melissa Benoist, John Goodman, Kevin Bacon, Michelle Monaghan and J.K. Simmons star in the film directed by Peter Berg.

The movie, which goes wide among a plethora of other films in the marketplace on Christmas Day, is hoping that a story of love and hope amidst the backdrop of one of the worst terrorist attacks in this nation will cut through the clutter. The dramatic thriller is about the 2013 Boston Marathon Bombing and the 105 hours that followed when ordinary men and women became heroes along with the first responders and surgeons who struggled that day to save lives. The manhunt that ensued was internationally televised as law enforcement worked to hunt down the terrorists. One was killed and the other tried, convicted and sentenced to death.

Three civilians were killed on that day, December 21, including 8-year-old Martin William Richard (his mother was gravely injured as well). Another 232 people were injured.
