Manchester By The Sea stars Casey Affleck and Michelle Williams will receive the Cinema Vanguard award at the 32nd annual Santa Barbara International Film Festival. The two actors will be lauded for their performance in Kenneth Lonergan’s written/directed film at the Arlington Theatre on February 5.

This news comes on the heels of their respective Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild noms for Best Actor and Best Supporting Actress. Manchester recently was named Best Film by The National Board of Review and both the film and the actors are strong contenders in the Oscar race.

The Cinema Vanguard award was created to honor actors who have forged their own path while taking artistic risks and making a significant and unique contribution to film. Affleck and Williams join a list of previous honorees, including Martin Scorsese, Leonardo DiCaprio, Amy Adams, Rooney Mara, and Eddie Redmayne.

“Throughout their respective careers, Casey and Michelle have impressed audiences with distinct, personal roles and we are excited to bring them together to honor their sublime performances in Manchester by the Sea,” said SBIFF’s Executive Director Roger Durling.

Warren Beatty, Isabelle Huppert, Denzel Washington, Ryan Gosling & Emma Stone, Aaron Taylor Johnson, Dev Patel, Janelle Monáe, Mahershala Ali, Naomie Harris, and Ruth Negga are among those set to be recognized at the upcoming fest, which runs from February 1-11.
