‘Empire’ & ‘Star’ Sit-Down Clip: No Crossover Coming Yet For Fox Series

It’s not the first time that Terrence Howard and Lenny Kravitz have been in the same project, but the clip that Fox released today of the Empire star and the Star regular doesn’t mean a crossover is in the works for the series co-created by Lee Daniels. The sit-down between the two The Butler alums is set to appear tonight in Empire‘s Season 3 midseason finale. Watch the clip above.

Despite the melding of the two worlds in the scene, I’ve learned that there are no plans to have a full-blown crossover between the two shows. There were preliminary discussions at one point of a more significant overlap, but schedules did not work out between the two shows; Empire is shot in Chicago and Star in Atlanta.

It doesn’t take a marketing genius to figure out that the point of the tease clip is to push the millions of viewers of tonight’s 8 PM Empire midseason finale to Star, which is having its preview debut at 9 PM, in Empire‘s regular time slot. New episodes of Star will resume in the show’s regular slot at9 PM Wednesdays, beginning January 4. The rest of Empire‘s third season returns in the spring with more of the Lyons’ saga.
