Back in August, SAG announced Lily Tomlin as the 53rd recipient of the SAG Lifetime Achievement Award for the 2017 SAG Awards. “From Edith Ann to Frankie, her characters are wholly unique, and by exposing¬†every nuance of human behavior they widen our¬†scope of understanding,” SAG-AFTRA President Gabrielle Carteris said in making the announcement.

Four months later, Tomlin’s role as Frankie in Netflix’s Grace & Frankie today earned Tomlin a 2017 SAG Award nomination in the actress in a comedy series category, Tomlin’s first SAG Award nomination for the part, which had landed her two Emmy noms to date.

Tomlin is only the second actor to be feted with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the SAG Awards while also in the running as a nominee. In 2005, James Garner received a Lifetime Achievement Award along with a supporting actor nomination for the movie The Notebook.

Tomlin has the chance to be the first to win a SAG acting award and receive a Lifetime Achievement one in the same year. Betty White accomplished that in two consecutive years, with her Lifetime Achievement Award in 2010 followed by SAG Awards for best actress in a comedy series in 2011 and 2012 for her TV Land sitcom Hot In Cleveland.
