‘The Voice’ Finale Ratings Down From 2015, ‘The Middle’ Rises, ‘NCIS’ Even

SPOILER ALERT: This article contains details of last night’s The Voice Season 11 finale.

Crowning its Season 11 winner last night, The Voice really made sure to go out with pyrotechnics, with superstar appearances by Stevie Wonder, Ariana Grande, The Weeknd, John Legend, Kelly Clarkson, Bruno Mars, Sting and KISS. However, even with all that and the wonderfully named Sundance Head emerging as the victor, it was not a big-picture ratings win for the NBC show.

With a 2.5/9 rating among adults 18-49, the 9-11 PM finale was down 14% from its comparable Season 9 finale of December 15 last year. Having said that, unlike the Season 10 finale in May, last night is not a low. Following the pattern of the different seasons within the year, last night’s finale actually was up 14% over the final numbers of that Season 10 ender May 24. Compared to Monday’s first part of this cycle’s finale, last night saw an uptick of 14% in the key demo and total viewership of 12.05 million viewers. All of which has NBC winning the night with a 2.2 rating and 10.9 million viewers.

The competitive night also saw CBS top Tuesday in the demo with NCIS (1.8/7) as the most watched show with an audience of 14.7 million. Lead-out Bull (1.4/5) was down a tenth, while NCIS: New Orleans (1.2/4) was also the same as its December 6 episode. Overall,  the House of nwas the most watched net of the night with an audience of 12.37 million.

A 10 PM repeat of last Friday’s Jimmy Kimmel Live: Rogue One A Star Wars Story (0.5/2) ended ABC’s night of comedy upticks. The Middle (1.6/6) and newbie American Housewife (1.5/5) saw rises of 14% and 7%, respectively, among the 18-49s. Fresh Off The Boat (1.2/4) and The Real O’Neals (0.9/3) were up 9% and 13%, respectively, for the Disney-owned net compared with last week.

Heading into tonight’s Empire midseason finale and Star debut, Fox’s Brooklyn Nine-Nine (0.9/4), New Girl (0.8/3) and the penultimate Scream Queens (0.5/2) episode of the season were down a tenth, even and the same as last week, respectively.

The CW was all encores.
