‘LAbyrinth’ Adds To Its Cast As Production Begins; Shioli Kutsuna Joins ‘The Outsider’


Xander BerkeleyShea Whigham, Wynn Everett, and Toby Huss have been added to the cast of LAbyrinth, the Tupac-Biggie crime drama that stars Johnny Depp and Forest Whitaker. Brad Furman is directing the film, which commenced production today in Los Angeles. Christian Contreras adapted the screenplay from Randall Sullivan’s book of the same name. The investigative thriller follows disgraced L.A.P.D. detective Russell Poole (Depp), who is unable to solve his biggest case – the murders of music icons Tupac Shakur and The Notorious B.I.G. “Jack” Jackson, a reporter desperate to save his reputation and career, tracks down Poole, and the two enter into an uneasy partnership to finally put this case to rest. Relentless in their hunt for the truth, these two broken men threaten to crack the foundation of the L.A.P.D. all the while fighting for their own redemption. Miriam Segal of Good Films is producing and Open Road Films and Miramax are co-producing. Open Road will release the film sometime next year.

Shioli Kutsuna has landed the female lead opposite Jared Leto in the Martin Zandvliet-directed action thriller The Outsider. Written by Andrew Baldwin, the film, set in post-WWII Japan,  tells the story of an imprisoned American soldier (Leto) who is released with the help of his yakuza cellmate. Now free, he sets out to earn their respect and repay his debt while navigating the dangerous criminal underworld. Waypoint Entertainment is financing with Ken Kao producing alongside John Linson and Art Linson under their Linson Entertainment banner. Kutsuna most recently starred opposite Japanese actor Takeshi Kitano in the film While The Women Are Sleeping directed by Wayne Wang. She is repped by McKeon/Myones Entertainment in the U.S. and Oscar Promotion in Japan.
