Fox has given a script commitment with penalty to The Bastard, a single-camera comedy written and executive produced by Rob Rosell and David Hornsby. 20th TV is the studio. This marks a reunion for Rosell and Hornsby, who co-created with Scott Marder the FX animated comedy series Unsupervised and served as executive producers on the network’s flagship comedy series It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.
The Bastard follows Warren, a hardworking hotel janitor who has a freak accident at work and is told by his mother, who mistakenly thinks he’s on his death bed, that he’s the bastard son of the wealthy founder of the hotel chain. Warren seeks out his real father, hoping to connect, and eventually earns a place in the wealthy but dysfunctional family. But no matter how hard he tries, he will always be … the bastard.
Rosell, who is under an overall deal at 20th TV, serves as co-executive producer on the studio’s Fox comedy series New Girl. He is repped by UTA. How to Be a Gentleman creator Hornsby is repped by WME and Rise Management.
