‘The OA’ Trailer: Netflix Releases First Look & Sets Premiere Date For Drama

Netflix took to social media today to unveil the first trailer for The OA and set a streaming date for the entire first season. Reuniting Sundance veterans Brit Marling and director Zal Batmanglij — who collaborated on Park City debutants The East and Sound of My Voice — the eight-hour, straight-to-series drama will debut this Friday, December 16. Watch the 90-second trailer above.

“She’s our daughter — but she’s never seen us before. Seven years ago, when she went missing, she was blind.” Those words set up the trailer for the series, whose logline has been kept under wraps but was known to include mystery elements. “I didn’t disappear,” Marling’s Prairie Johnson says. “I was present for all of it.” Exactly what “it” is remains unclear in this first look at The OA, which also stars Scott Wilson as her adopted father, Will Brill, Emory Cohen, Patrick Gibson, Brendan Meyer and Brandon Perea.

Batmanglij directs all eight episodes, and he and Marling created and executive produce the series with Plan B’s Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner and Anonymous Content’s Michael Sugar. Check out the trailer above and tell us what you think — and what you think is going on.
