Verizon Taps Erin McPherson As Head Of Content Strategy & Programming

Erin McPherson, former exec at Disney’s Maker Studios and Yahoo, has moved to Verizon as Head of Content Strategy, Acquisition and Programming.

McPherson takes on the role vacated by Terry Denson, Verizon’s longtime VP of content strategy and acquisition, who exited the company this summer.

In her new role, McPherson will oversee Verizon’s content activities, including programming, acquisitions, development, strategic partnerships, and original content. She will be responsible for managing all aspects of Verizon’s programming initiatives, focused on creating top-tier content across all Verizon’s platforms, including fios and future OTT efforts. McPherson will be based in New York City and will report to Verizon’s Senior Vice President of Consumer Products and New Business Development, Brian Angiolet.

Verizon Digital Entertainment GM Chip Canter will continue to oversee the telco’s go90 business, reporting directly to Angiolet. McPherson’s focus will be on fios and future OTT.

Prior to joining Verizon, McPherson served as the Chief Content Officer at Disney’s Maker Studios. During her tenure there, she led a team of 150 people, supporting the studios, programming, original content, series development and sales across platforms, strategic programming partnerships, talent relationships, branded entertainment, marketing and editorial content on Maker’s proprietary platform, Prior to Maker, McPherson served as VP and Head of Video Programming and Originals at Yahoo, where she led the company’s foray into original video.
