EXCLUSIVE: Hot off of Ouija: Origin of Evil, which is racing past $81M worldwide off a $9M budget, filmmaker Mike Flanagan is taking the reins of Sony’s Inherit the Earth, which he will write and is attached to direct.

Flanagan is reconceiving the whole project, which is loosely based on the Columbia development script and centers on a servant protector robot who is tasked to protect a young girl. The project is being overseen at Sony by EVP Production Jonathan Kadin. Filmmaker Andrew Adamson departed the project nine months ago.

With Inherit the Earth, Flanagan reteams with Platinum Dunes, which produced the Ouija sequel. Along with Dave Alpert and Rick Jacobs at Circle of Confusion, Platinum Dunes has been on the project since its early stages of development. Platinum Dunes’ Michael Bay, Andrew Form and Brad Fuller are producing with Alpert and Jacobs as well as Ted Adams and Trevor Macy. Flanagan is repped by WME and Nelson Davis.
