San Francisco police took a man into custody this evening local time after receiving reports of an individual armed with a handgun at the AMC Metreon multiplex in the downtown area at 4th and Mission. There were no shots fired or injuries. According to the San Francisco Chronicle, the unidentified man pulled a gun inside Theater 10 at about 7:30 PM as the previews ended ahead of a screening of Allied, a witness said.

The witness said the man was yelling and behaving erratically near the front rows of the theater and a manager was sought. By the time the witness returned, people were screaming and running out of the theater, he said. However, the gunman reportedly stayed seated and is described as watching the movie start. “He wasn’t in any hurry and that was pretty alarming,” another witness told the newspaper.

Police received a 911 call about a possibly armed man at 7:55 PM, said police spokeswoman Officer Grace Gatpandan. SFPD responded and evacuated the theater, detaining one person and recovering a handgun. An investigation continues and the public has been asked to avoid the area near the theater until further notice.
