‘Supergirl’ Ratings Hit Highs As CW Crossover Begins; ‘Monday Night Football’ & ‘Lucifer’ Up

The CW

There are parties in Wisconsin and Burbank this morning as the Green Bay Packers whipped the Philadelphia Eagles 27-13 on Monday Night Football last night, and Supergirl flew to season highs on the CW as the DC Week crossover kicked off.

The Packers’ victory resulted in an 8.9 metered-market rating for ESPN and the NFL on Monday. Even though it was a lopsided game, that pushes last night’s 8:15-11:36 PM ET battle in the City of Brotherly Love up 10% in MM results over last week. It also is the fourth MNF rise in a row in a season that has seen the NFL tackled for ratings losses. With ESPN primed to win the night on cable and among the Big 4, the Packers-Eagles game hit a high of 10.2 in MM results in the 9:30-9:45 PM ET period.

Speaking of highs, with 2.7 million tuning in, the CW had its most watched Monday since January 18, 2010, and its best result among adults 18-49 since October 3, 2011. Part of that surge came from the Maiden of Might as Supergirl (1.1/4) kicked off the four-night Invasion crossover with The Flash, Arrow and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow.

Although the Scarlet Speedster only showed up near the end of last night’s “Medusa” episode, the Melissa Benoist-led series was up a tenth from the fast affiliate numbers of its November 21 episode to match its premiere on the CW in the key demo – a season high. Last week’s 18-49 ended up being adjusted down a tenth to a 0.9/3 because of NFL pre-emptions. Last night saw the CW’s offerings also pre-empted for the Packers-Eagles game, but only in Green Bay, so likely any new adjustments will be smaller.

Viewershipwise, Supergirl had its best night since moving to the CW from CBS for its second season. Beating the previous high of its October 10 season debut (3.06 million), the series’ midseason finale snared an audience of 3.5 million, a 34% rise over last week. Lead-out Jane the Virgin (0.5/6) also struck season highs with a rise of a tenth over last week in the demo and 1.2 million tuning in. In fact, last night’s Season 3 midseason finale was the most-watched episode of the Gina Rodriguez-led show since its Season 1 finale back on May 11, 2015.

As for the House of Moonves, it was all encores except for The Odd Couple (0.9/3), which was down a tenth from its November 21 show.

NBC won the night on the Big 4 and the CW with a 1.7/6 rating and 8.09 million viewers. With things heating up toward its season finale, The Voice (2.0/7) was the night’s top-rated and most-watched show (9.7 million), even though it too was down a tenth from last week. Lead-out Timeless (1.1/4) won its 10 PM time slot among the 18-49s but was also off a tenth from last week.

Expect adjustments for ABC as the Disney-owned net had NFL pre-emptions in both Philly and Milwaukee. As it is, the CMA Country Christmas (1.3/4) is currently up 44% in the key demo over its December 3, 2015 results. After that bounce, Conviction (1.0/4) rose 43% over its November 21 episode.

Fox’s Gotham (1.1/4) was steady with last week, while Lucifer (1.2/4) was devilishly up 20% over its November 21 show. Last night also saw midseason finales for both the Batman backstory series and the bad-boy show, with Gotham down 31% in the key demo from its Season 2 winter ender of November 30, 2015.
