‘Grinch’ Gets Full Ride From NBC: Original Version For 50th Anniversary

What a great Grinchy trick. NBC said today that it will air the full version of How the Grinch Stole Christmas! this year to mark the holiday toon’s 50th anniversary. The classic special directed by Looney Tunes master Chuck Jones will be shown in its original 26-minute version for the first time in more than a decade. The merriment happens on November 25 — the day after Thanksgiving and a full month before Christmas.

Narrated with grumbly glee by Boris Karloff, Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas! traces the schemes of the Christmas-hating Grinch to steal every material vestige of the holiday from the Whos down in Whoville. (You’re a mean one, Mr. Grinch.) But the baddie with a heart two sizes too small ultimately discovers he can’t remove the spirit of Christmas from the hearts of the Whos.
