UPDATE, 10:16 AM: Donald Trump loves high ratings and being the biggest but it looks like the President-elect is going to have to settle for third place in at least one race. With the final numbers in for the former Apprentice host’s first post-election sit-down this weekend, 60 Minutes snared a total of 20 million viewers – the second best the series has done since the last time the White House had a new occupant.
While easily a season high for the CBS news magazine show and the best non-sports numbers of the week, Trump’s interview was actually lower than what his predecessor drew back in 2008 in his first post-election interview. The sit-down with Barack Obama and later Michelle Obama too delivered an audience of 25.1 million. Trump and members of his family also came behind what Charlie Rose’s interview with Sean Penn pulled in on January 17 this year. As revelations about his own interview with the now re-captured drug lord El Chapo swirled, the Oscar winner’s chat with Charlie captured 20.6 million viewers s0, looks like part of America still cares what Hollywood has to say.
What a bigger slice of America really cares about is their football and the rematch between the Seattle Seahawks and the New England Patriots scored in that respect. Gaining the distinction of the most watch Week 10 NFL primetime game in 18-years, Sunday Night Football ended up with 22.5 million viewers in the final numbers – topping the night and the week.
PREVIOUSLY, NOV. 14 AM: Less than a week after his upset victory over Hillary Clinton, Donald Trump proved again that he is a Big 4 big primetime draw – even if his trademark line last night was “Stop it” rather than “You’re fired!”
60 Minutes snagged the first significant TV interview with the President-elect since the November 8 vote, and it was a big ratings boost for the CBS News series. With a 25-minute delay in some markets due to the San Diego Chargers vs. Miami Dolphins game going long, the Lesley Stahl-conducted sit-down with the ontime The Apprentice host snared a 12.9/20 rating in metered market results. That’s up a strong 22% from what an NFL overrun-delayed 60 Minutes saw last week and the best the show has done this season so far.

Of course, Trump and 60 Minutes were far from the only big action on TV last night, with Sunday Night Football seeing the Seattle Seahawks beat the New England Patriots 31-24. Amidst a season of struggling gridiron ratings, the big-ticket matchup paid off for the NFL and NBC with the best Week 10 scored by SNF since a Patriots-New York Jets game in 2011.
The 14.3/23 metered market ratings were also the best result SNF has had since this year’s opening week, and up 22% from last week when the Oakland Raiders beat the Denver Broncos. That November 6 game went on to get a 6.6/20 rating among adults 18-49 and 18.33 million total viewers. Last night’s Seahawks-Patriots game ran from 8:30-11:45 PM.
Even with the increased PEOTUS competition from the House of Moonves last night, NBC still looks set to win Sunday’s primetime.

UPDATE, 9 AM: There was a lot of NFL on the Big 4 last night but Donald Trump is the one who made the big leap – at least for 60 Minutes and CBS in the early ratings.
The President-elect’s first sitdown TV interview drew a season best 3.2/10 for the news mag series among adults 18-49 with18.77 million viewers. That’s a 33% jump in the demo and a 34% rise in the total audience from what 60 Minutes had on November 6, two days before the former Apprentice host’s unexpected election win. In the primary news demo of adults 25-54, last night’s Trump talk pulled a 4.2 rating, up 34% from last week.
Having said that, expect some adjustments in those numbers in later ratings as the House of Moonves saw a 24-minute NFL overrun delay in big markets like New York, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Chicago, the entire state of Florida except for Jacksonville, DC and others.
And speaking of the NFL, it was a much needed good night for Sunday Night Football (6.5/19) as the Seattle Seahawks beat the New England Patriots 31-24. The presence of two nationally followed teams, especially the ratings friendly Patriots, and a decent game for once pushed SNF up 16% over last week in fast affiliate numbers to score its best result since the ratings declining season began. The November 6 Raiders victory over the Broncos went on to deliver a 6.6/20 rating and 18.33 million viewers for the Comcast-owned net and the NFL in the final numbers. This week’s game is already claiming a viewership of 19.24 million in the early numbers – which means, with a 5.5/16 rating and audience of 16.39 million, NBC won the night again.
With that NFL overrun, CBS numbers may be see more change than usual but currently NCIS: LA (1.9/6) is up 36% in the key demo to a season high. Lead-outs Madam Secretary (1.1/3) and Elementary (0.7/2) rose 10% and 17% respectively.
There was also an NFL overrun on Fox, which resulted in part in the 8PM The Simpsons (3.1/9) hitting a season high and a very animated uptick of 121% over last week’s non-NFL led show. Son Of Zorn (1.6/5), Family Guy (1.6/5) and The Last Man On Earth (1.1/3) all saw healthy rises too with the latter up two tenths over its November 6 show.
Over on a non-NFL enhanced ABC, there was some good news as both Secrets & Lies (0.7/2) and Quantico (0.7/2) rose a tenth from last week’s series lows. With that, however, 8 PM’s Once Upon A Time (0.9/3) and 7 PM’s America’s Funniest Home Videos (0.8/3) were both down two tenths for the net.
