IM Global Acquires Rights To Maven Pictures’ ‘Boarding School’ With Filmmaker Boaz Yakin

IM Global has acquired international rights to Boaz Yakin horror thriller Boarding School produced by Maven Pictures’ co-founders (and prolific filmmakers) Trudie Styler and Celine Rattray and also produced by Scott Lochmus (The Joneses) and Jason Orans (Goodbye Solo).

Currently in post, the film stars Will Patton (Remember the Titans), Samantha Mathis (American Psycho), Sterling Jerins (The Conjuring series), Luke Prael (Boy in a Backpack), and Tammy Blanchard (The Good Shepard, Blue Jasmine).

The story is described as “a horrifying fable about an ominous boarding school where children deemed ‘undesirable’ are committed. Twelve-year- old Jacob Felson (Prael) is sent away by his stepfather to the mysterious school run by a peculiar couple, Dr. Sherman (Patton) and his dominating wife (Blanchard). When one of the students is found dead, Jacob begins to suspect something much more sinister is going on than education.

Executive producers are Jonathan Gray, Jeffrey Arsenault (OGCP), Hadar Burger (OGCP), Dillon Jordan, Marco Vicini and Jordan Schur.


Maven Pictures previously produced Best Picture nominee The Kids Are All Right, Bernie (sgtarring Jack Black and Shirley MacLaine), Grace is Gone (starring John Cusack) and Filth (starring James McAvoy and Jamie Bell).  In 2016, Maven produced the Cannes Film Festival Jury Prize winner American Honey, directed by Andrea Arnold and starring Shia Labeouf and Sasha Lane.

Upcoming in 2017, Maven will release Freak Show which is based on James St. James’ best-selling novel and marks the directorial debut for Trudie Styler. Freak show stars Alex Lawther (The Imitation Game),  Abigail Breslin, and Better Midler. Also, upcoming in 2017 is their thriller Wildling, directed by Fritz Bohm and starring Bel Powley and Liv Tyler, and Novitiate, directed by Maggie Betts and starring Margaret Qualley and Melissa Leo.

The deal was negotiated by Michael Rothstein, IM Global President, international sales and distribution and by Nic Marshall at Maven Pictures.
