Ed Helms, Jack Huston & Bel Powley To ‘Stand By’ Armando Bo

EXCLUSIVE: Ed Helms, Jack Huston and Bel Powley are set to star in Stand By, the second film from Armando Bo, Alejandro G. Inárritu’s longtime collaborator. Bankside Films is launching foreign sales on the title, Bo’s first English-language directorial effort, this week at the American Film Market.

UTA’s Independent Film Group packaged the project and will rep the North American sale.

Bo and Nicolas Giacobone co-write the script. The duo recently co-wrote Biutiful and Birdman, the latter of which won an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay.

Stand By sees a conservative family man faced with a life-threatening illness, whose only chance of survival comes in the form of two dubious drifters who offer him a deal that will save his life: they can give him the kidney he needs, in exchange for a house. In desperation, he accepts their suspicious proposal, only to find himself going down a slippery slope when they change the rules of the game.

The film is produced by Christine Vachon of New York’s Killer Films as well as Helms and Mike Falbo through their Pacific Electric banner. It marks the second feature from Bo following his feature debut The Last Elvis, which was selected for the Sundance Film Festival in 2012. Bo’s short film Lifeline – originally conceived as branded content for telecom giant Qualcomm – has been viewed more than 20 million times online.

“Armando Bo has already enjoyed considerable success as an award-winning writer, filmmaker and commercials director and we could not be more excited to present his first English-language feature to the world,” said Bankside’s Stephen Kelliher. “His storytelling goes straight to the heart of humanity whilst challenging our ideas about the boundaries we create when it comes to life and death.”

Helms, Huston and Powley are repped by UTA; Powley is additionally repped by Authentic. Bo and Giacobone are with UTA and Untitled Entertainment.
