EXCLUSIVE: Good Deed Entertainment has acquired North American rights to So B. It, a feature based on the bestselling YA book by Sarah Weeks and adapted by Garry Williams (Larger Than Life). The film, directed by Stephen Gyllenhaal (Homegrown), stars Alfre Woodard, John Heard and Cloris Leachman. Good Deed has set a limited release for April 2017.
The film, which also stars Talitha Bateman (Annabelle 2), Jacinda Barrett (Bloodline), Jessica Collins (Zero Dark Thirty) and Dash Mihok (Silver Linings Playbook), follows a girl named Heidi (Bateman) who lives with her mentally challenged mother (Barrett) and agoraphobic caretaker (Woodard). Heidi travels alone across the country to learn the truth about her family and herself.
The movie had its world premiere at the Los Angeles Film Festival in June and will screen at the Napa Valley Film Festival this month.
So B. It was produced by J. Todd Harris (Bottle Shock) and Orien Richman, with Adam Tenenbaum of Outside the Box Film Partners, Michael Nelson (Hot Tub Time Machine) and Scott Donley of GDE (Tomorrow You’re Gone) executive producing.
The deal was negotiated by GDE’s CEO Scott Donley, president Lenny Shapiro and director of acquisitions Brandon Hill. Gersh negotiated for the filmmakers.
